What is Physical Therapy?Physical
therapy is a holistic and patient-centered approach focusing on the manual
treatment of the soft tissue - muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia. Therapists
use highly skilled, hands-on techniques to diagnose, prevent or treat
underlying conditions and problems. It is based on health science principles
and works alongside other health care practices.
Physical therapy is founded on a tradition which recognises and values the healing properties of touch. It is proven as being very safe, non-invasive and is of course, drug free. Each treatment is individually tailored. The therapist, after carefully noting your history and completing a thorough physical examination will devise a treatment plan which may include suggesting appropriate changes to lifestyle, work practice or exercise. On your first assessment , your therapist will take a detailed history and perform a functional assessment. It is normal that you may be assessed from head to toe in order to find the root of your problem if necessary. After assessment, your therapist will inform you of there diagnosis and treatment plan. Following diagnosis and with your consent the therapist will begin to treat you and inform you of home care plans required post treatment and if you will require a repeat visit. Clothing can be worn throughout treatment, however as Physical Therapy involves hands on treatment that may require the use of oils or creams it may be necessary to remove some clothing. In this case, the client will always be adequately draped. It is advisable to wear shorts or vest tops to make one more comfortable if necessary. |
